It’s time to think about transportable cabin maintenance

It's Time To Think About Transportable Cabin Maintenance

It’s cold and wet outside at the moment, and we want you to continue to get the best out of your unit.

Below are some simple transportable cabin maintenance steps that will keep your unit in tip-top condition.

  • Ensure ground levels and vegetation are maintained around the building edges and are kept well below the external cladding so there is no moisture contact. Cut/remove weeds and grass that are in contact with the unit.
  • Remove any obstacles close to the house as this blocks the ventilation under the unit. Keep the area around the unit clear of rubbish, toys, household items, etc.
  • Keep gutters and spouting clean and free of any blockages so they drain correctly during rain. On a dry day, remove any debris from the gutters. Tree branches and leaves can quickly clog guttering.
  • Wash down external surfaces at least once a year, and where buildings are subject to wind-driven salt spray, every six months, as this helps maintain the integrity of the building envelope and reduces mildew and mould levels when sun does not shine directly onto those surfaces.
  • Clean internal surfaces, especially those subject to moisture (bathrooms, kitchens, etc.) and wipe down the interior surfaces of windows if they are damp from condensation, as this reduces the risk of mildew and mould. A paste made with baking soda is great for cleaning up mould.
  • Open bathroom windows and use the extractor fan (where fitted) whilst showering to reduce moisture levels. Open other windows as often as possible when you are home, and on warm, dry days, open the doors to allow complete air change inside the home.
  • Remove and clean water traps in showers to remove hair and other foreign matter so they drain correctly.
  • Open kitchen windows whilst cooking to reduce moisture levels and smells.
  • Avoid putting fat or oil down the drains to reduce the risk of blockages.
  • Use a dehumidifier, if available, in areas subject to moisture.
  • Appropriately manage the use of gas heaters as these can cause excessive moisture levels inside the unit.
  • Clean the ranch slider and all interior window tracks so they continue to work correctly.
  • Ensure the window and ranch slider drain holes remain clean and free of blockages to allow condensation to drain away.
  • Ensure only human waste and toilet paper are put down the toilet
  • Replace smoke alarm batteries at least every six months and test your smoke alarms regularly.
