How to look after your transportable cabin
Here are our handy guidelines on caring for the transportable cabin you are renting. Following the tips below will help you get the best from your unit.
Rubbish
Remove rubbish regularly from your unit. This will reduce the risk of insects and rodents inhabiting your transportable cabin.
Bathroom (selected units only)
You should wipe down the glass after each shower to prevent soap residue building up. Showers, sinks, toilets, and floors should be cleaned regularly. Exit Mould will help keep shower corners and silicone seals free from mould.
Kitchen (selected units only)
Regularly clean the kitchen and don’t leave food sitting out, as this can attract insects, rats, and mice. Wipe any spilled liquids off the floor.
Smoke alarms
It’s your responsibility to maintain the installed smoke alarm(s), including replacing the batteries if required, for the duration you have the transportable cabin. This is for your safety. Notify us of any issues as soon as possible.
Incense and candles
For fire and safety reasons, never burn candles or incense inside your unit.
Mould
Not only is mould unsightly, but some moulds can adversely affect your health by triggering allergies, aggravating respiratory problems, and causing eye and skin irritation. To prevent mould in your transportable cabin:
- Keep areas dry. If condensation forms on the windows or walls, dry it off with a towel immediately. If condensation is not dealt with daily, it can cause damp carpets and furnishings, and black spotting walls and ceiling of your unit.
- Keep your windows open to ventilate the unit as much as possible. Fresh air will help dry out any damp surfaces.
- Let sunlight in. Sunlight will help kill off the mould and mildew spores.
- If your transportable cabin has a kitchen, keep the windows open while cooking.
- If your unit has a bathroom, use the extractor fan while showering. This will remove the warm damp air on which mould thrives.
- Keep mattresses off the ground.
- Avoid drying laundry indoors.
Carpet cleaning and stain removal
When spills happens, the best thing to do is sort them out straight away. Once a stain sets, it is much harder to remove.
Liquid Stains
Press a dry white kitchen paper towel straight down onto the carpet to suck up the liquid. DO NOT RUB the spill. Keep replacing the paper towel until the carpet is dry. If the area is still stained, moisten another white kitchen paper towel with warm, slightly soapy water and blot. Repeat until the stain has gone. At the end, use another dry paper towel to dry the area. Pressed microfibre cloths are also very useful for blotting up large liquid stains. These are available from most supermarkets.
Solid Stains
Scrape the soiled area with the blunt edge of a spoon to remove the material. Scrape from the outside edge of the stain towards the centre. When the solid material has been removed, apply dry white kitchen paper towels as used on liquid stains (above).
Three simple rules:
- Act immediately
- Never rub the stained area
- Call a professional to remove difficult or unusual stains
