As the weather gets colder and wetter, we thought we'd send out a few friendly reminders to help keep you safe over the winter months.

Power leads

Please make sure the power lead to your unit is fully uncoiled and never left wound up while in use. Coiled cables can build up heat, which may melt the insulation and create a fire risk.

It's also a good idea to regularly check power cords, plugs and adapters for cracks, exposed wires, corrosion or signs of burning. Never use a cord that has been repaired with tape.

Check for Moisture in Caravan Plugs

From time to time, moisture can find its way into caravan plugs, particularly during wet weather.

We recommend unplugging the power lead and checking both the caravan plug on the unit and the plug on the power lead for any signs of moisture. If moisture is present, switch the power off and disconnect the lead at both ends. Dry the plug with a towel and allow it to air dry completely, ideally upside down so any trapped water can drain away. Once dry, reconnect the lead and switch the power back on.

Avoid Overloading Circuits

Winter heating, portable heaters, kettles and microwaves can all draw a significant amount of power.

To help avoid overloading the unit's electrical system, try to stagger appliance use where possible. For example, turn off an electric heater before boiling a kettle or using a microwave.

Please also avoid plugging multiple heaters or other high-power appliances into double adapters or multi-boards, as this can quickly lead to overheating and create a fire hazard.

Heating Safety

When using a gas heater, always leave a window slightly open to ensure adequate ventilation and prevent the buildup of carbon monoxide.

Keep bedding, curtains, clothing and furniture at least one metre away from any electric or gas heater.

Smoke Alarms

Please test your smoke alarm regularly to ensure it is working correctly. If the alarm does not sound during testing, replace the battery as soon as possible.
